History Hoedown - Grades K-6

CEA's History Hoedown presentation is live music, American history, and interactive fun with interesting facts that augment and enrich your school's social studies and cultural arts curriculum. This concert performance combines original and traditional American folk songs that have been proven to educate, entertain, and inspire. We encourage audience participation during the presentation as we explore topics such as the Pony Express, steam trains, America's westward expansion, the Alamo, our flag, the Declaration of Independence, and much more. The presentation also includes an engaging question and answer session.

The performance can vary depending on a number of factors such as season (and upcoming holidays). We generally focus on a predetermined set of songs and topics, however, the presentation can be tailored either for repeat audiences or for special topics your school is promoting.

Can the audience participate in the performance?

Absolutely; in fact, we consider the audience to be an important part of the performance! Our presentations are highly interactive, and we take the time to show the audience members their parts.

What should I, and my school, do in preparation for a performance?

We encourage you to create a buzz with your students and promote anticipation, which will make for a charged audience and a fun, successful presentation for all in attendance. If you or one of your school's educators have seen the performance in the past, give the students a review beforehand!

What can audience members expect to gain from this program?

Our first priority is always to educate. We believe that nothing ignites a student’s interest in history and America's rich landscape more effectively then songs and stories that bring past events stirringly back to life. The critical acclaim we receive from students and educators alike bear out that belief. But our presentations also promote social participation and... just plain fun!
